To help applicants plan a submission for 2024 funding, we are sharing more information about the questions that will be asked in our expression of interest form.

The purpose of the expression of interest stage in our process is for applicants to supply the PGB screening team with the relevant information that allows us to establish the following:

  • Who the main point of contact is for the application;
  • Whether you have a confirmed partnership in place yet;
  • Or if you're applying individually with the view to finding a partnership through our process;
  • The impact and accountability of the charitable organisation;
  • The conceptual themes if these have been developed;
  • What impact this funding opportunity will have on the charitable organisation if it were to be successful.

The majority of applications we receive and encourage are from garden designers and UK-registered charities that have already formed a partnership together before our process opens.

Each year we receive a small proportion of individual applications from garden designers and charitable organisations that haven't formed a partnership yet. We screen these applications and run an introductory and pairing process to endeavour to help as many designers and organisations find a pairing to move forward in the process with.

If your organisation is not a UK-registered charity, we allow ourselves a degree of flexibility to consider applications from other types of organisations (e.g. community interest companies or not-for-profit) so please do go ahead with an application.

All applicants will be asked to provide responses to the following questions:

  • Please tell us your name.
  • What is your email address?
  • What is the best number to contact you on?
  • Which category of funding are you interested in applying for? (Show Garden or All About Plants)
  • Which best describes your role or the role of the individual you are applying on behalf of? (Garden designer or Charity representative)

For garden designers applying in partnership with a good cause, we ask the following:

  • What is the name of the organisation you will be partnering with?
  • Is the organisation a UK-registered charity? (If yes, what is the charity number? If no, what type of organisation are they registered as?)
  • Has this organisation exhibited at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show before? (If yes, which year/s did the organisation exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show?)
  • Please share with us any documents that capture the impact your good cause makes (e.g. the latest annual review and/or impact report).
  • If there are any additional documents relating to the charitable organisation's governance and/or impact that you would like to share here, please do so.
  • Have you as the designer had experience exhibiting at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show or any other RHS shows? (If yes, Please provide further details about the experience.)
  • If there is a relevant URL you would like to share that showcases your recent shows and/or projects, please do so here
  • In no more than 200 words, please tell us broadly about the concept for your garden?
  • In no more than 200 words, please tell us how this opportunity will benefit the good cause it is in aid of?
  • Is there anything further you wish us to know about your application that you do not feel you've been able to cover in previous questions?

For garden designers applying without a partnership with a good cause, we ask the following:

  • Please tell us which charitable themes you would be interested in designing for?
  • Have you as the designer had experience exhibiting at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show or any other RHS shows? If yes, Please provide further details about the experience.
  • If there is a relevant URL you would like to share that showcases your recent shows and/or projects, please do so here.
  • In no more than 200 words, please tell us why you wish to design a garden for a good cause at the Chelsea Flower Show?
  • If you have already developed a concept, please tell us a bit about it in no more than 200 words
  • Is there anything further you wish us to know about your application that you do not feel you've been able to cover in previous questions?

For charitable organisations applying in partnership with a garden designer, we ask the following:

  • Please tell us the name of your organisation?
  • Is your organisation a UK-registered charity? If yes, what is its charity number? If no, what type of organisation is it registered as?
  • Has this organisation exhibited at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show before? If yes, which year/s did the organisation exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show?
  • Please share with us any documents that capture the impact your good cause makes (e.g. the latest annual review and/or impact report)
  • If there are any additional documents relating to the charitable organisation's governance and/or impact that you would like to share here, please do so.
  • What is the name of the designer you plan to partner with?
  • What is their email address?
  • Has this designer had experience exhibiting at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show or any other RHS shows? If yes, Please provide further details about the experience
  • If there is a relevant URL that showcases the designer's recent show experience and projects, please share it here.

For charitable organisations applying without a partnership with a garden designer, we ask the following:

  • Please tell us if there are any designers you are particularly keen to partner with?

Want to know how to attract and retain really great women? There’s a lot to learn from ‘Project Giving Back’

For the last 20+ years I’ve been celebrating IWD in the corporate world … a world where we’ve used the day to celebrate the progress and achievements being made. And that’s been important because, let’s face it, there are still today material discrepancies in the number of women in senior and leadership roles, and in gender pay. Corporates now recognise the issue and, in most cases, are working hard to address the imbalances. However, targets of 40% of women on Boards and an 8% gender pay gap shows there is still a long way to go, and it’s a nut that hasn’t been cracked.

Here’s to a hopeful International Women’s Day

Every International Women’s Day, thousands of “Happy IWD” messages are sent and received. Don’t get me wrong, I’m at the front of the queue when it comes to wanting to celebrate the achievements of women, past, present and future, but when it comes to international anything day/week/month, ‘happy’ is not often what I feel. While I applaud organisations for using it as a vehicle for highlighting change still needed, every year, there’s a part of me that feels frustrated because the very existence of a day is evidence that equality is still being strived for.
